Prahran is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria,
Australia, 5 km south-east from Melbournes central business
district. Its Local Government Area is the City of Stonnington. At
the 2006 Census, Prahran had a population of 10,651. It is a part of
Melbourne with many shops, restaurants and cafes.
Commercial The
shopping street Chapel Street is a mix of upscale fashion shops and
cafes. Along with the South Yarra section of Toorak Rd, it is a
fashionable magnet for Melbournes upscale set. Greville Street, once
the centre of the Melbournes hippie community, has many cafés,
bars, restaurants, bookstores, clothing shops and music
shops.
Windsor is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 5 km
south-east from Melbournes central business district. Its Local
Government Area is the City of Stonnington. At the 2006 Census,
Windsor had a population of 6394.
Windsor is bounded by Dandenong
Road, St Kilda Road, Williams Road and High Street.
It is often
incorrectly referred to as Prahran, Windsors northern neighbour. In
the past, Windsor was within the City of Prahrans boundaries, and
many institutions still refer to this.
Windsor was named after
Windsor, Berkshire.
Known at first as Prahran South, its name was
changed to Windsor in 1891.
Windsor contains a diverse mix of
housing including medium density apartments, Victorian terrace
housing, hi-rise public housing towers and semi-detached cottages.
